Our Story

Mission Statement

We are two women striving to make a difference in the lives of girls and women of all ages. We want all of you, because it is never too late to love yourself as you are and stand united to stop self-criticism. Refocus all your exhausting negative thoughts into something invigorating and use your power to help yourself, your community, your friends, and your world.

Can you imagine not spending any of your time thinking or telling yourself that you look terrible, you’re not good enough or you hate parts of your body? Some of us have grown up thinking we’re never perfect, but what is perfect? Who dictates what perfect is? YOU DO! It’s time to…Snap Out Of It! Love Yourself Already! and Free Yourself to Make a Difference!

Imagine waking up in complete gratitude for the incredible and unique qualities you do possess.

Imagine not comparing yourself to anyone else, ever again.

Imagine that day when you can be who you are and love yourself, finally.

Imagine helping to support other PROUDgirls and women who need your help.

Imagine the power of helping each other to achieve this goal..

It’s time we agree to hangPROUD!

Our Story

It all started over a few napkin drawings and a glass of wine. My sister and I, both now in our 40’s, carried on with self-critical jokes about gravity, changing body parts, and rippling skin. These complaints came naturally since even as small girls, we talked constantly about how to combine each of our “better” body parts to create the perfect girl. But now this seemed impossible, even with plastic surgery!

After a few nights out like this, I went home and pondered. I had a strong history of negative talk about my physical image and too many days seemed to revolve around this, even now. By this stage in my life, wisdom had taught me that inner beauty and what we give back to others is far more important than what we look like. Wasn't this wisdom supposed to erase all of this exhausting negative thinking? That night, I decided to give up self-criticism and hangPROUD of who I am, exactly as I am.

Then along came my girlfriend, who also had a repertoire of self-doubting jokes. As a teen she longed to be as pretty and fashionable as her best friend, and that stayed with her. Now, also in her 40's, she was feeling the passing of time and shared the desire to finally put an end to these old thoughts. She also agreed to hangPROUD and prompted by her great enthusiasm, we decided to launch Proud Girls Inc.

It was easy for us to see the beauty in other women. Our friends, who come in all shapes and sizes, each manage to shine. Their internal goodness and the warmth of their smiles define their beauty and we can see it everyday.

It is time for all women to see this same beauty within themselves. We all need to stand united, stop criticizing ourselves, and be PROUDgirls together, forever.

Proceeds

With every item you purchase, Proud Girls Inc. will donate 10% of our profits to the PROUDgirls On The Move Scholarship Fund. Money from the scholarship fund will be granted to several, PROUD recipients. We hope to be able to award our first partial college scholarships by 2009 to PROUDgirls around the country. These will be awarded based on academics, financial need and essay about what they have had to overcome to hangPROUD and live as a PROUDgirl. These stories will inspire us all and these scholarships will be well earned based on hard work and perseverance to be the best one can be no matter what the circumstances. Our recipients will have the opportunity to let all of us follow them through their journey in college and will be supported by other PROUDgirls around the world!

Remember: with every item you purchase, you are helping to empower other PROUDgirls with an education! That's something to really hangPROUD about! Thank you!
